A native Virginian who works and resides in Lynchburg, Eakin received degrees in fine art from Ferrum College and Lynchburg College.

Eakin has studied watercolor with Karen Bowden and Don Andrews, and watermedia with Robert Burridge and Carol Barnes. Since 1999 he has been studying oil with Rosalie Day White in Lynchburg and also for the past 8 years at the Summer Artists Program, Nimrod Hall, Bath County.

Eakin joined the Lynchburg Art Club in 1994 and serves as co-chair for the Annual Lynchburg Art Festival. In 1996, he joined Riverviews Artspace in Lynchburg. He is an Artist Member of the Virginia Watercolor Society and his studio is located at Riverviews Artspace, 901 Jefferson Street, #212, in downtown Lynchburg.

His work has been selected for juried exhibitions in Lynchburg, Danville, Roanoke, Charlottesville, Blacksburg, Abington, Fredericksburg, Staunton, Hampton and Richmond as well as exhibitions in California, Pennsylvania and Maryland. He has received awards for his work in regional as well as national exhibitions. In 2006, his painting "Storm Front" and in 2007, "Approaching Storm" both received Awards of Excellence at the Virginia Highlands Festival Juried Fine Art Exhibition.

Eakin exhibits work at the Pheasant's Eye Gallery, Lynchburg, VA; Signature 9 Gallery, Roanoke, VA; The C&O Gallery, Charlottesvilla, VA; Spruce Creek Gallery Nellysford, VA; the Lynchburg Art Festival & Art Club; Grace Restaurant, Lynchburg, VA; Riverviews Artist's Co-Op Gallery at Riverviews Artspace and the Academy of Fine Arts in downtown Lynchburg.
